When flying, you always want your essentials close. Even if you keep important items in your personal item, it can be a hassle to try and open your bag in cramped leg-space.
I solve for this by packing a small pouch to keep in my seatback pocket. This way, all my essentials are within reach and I don't have to dig in my backpack or carry on in tight spaces.
Your bag of choice is completely up to you, but I opted for this clear, leather trimmed pouch. I got it monogrammed with my initials for a touch of personalized luxe. I like the see-through windows so it's easier to find my items.
Inside the pouch, I keep:
- SPF lip balm
- Sunscreen stick
- Disinfecting wipes
- Hand sanitizer
- Pen
- Wired earbuds
Specific items I use:
- Innbeauty Sun Balm SPF 30: This lip balm is hydrating and adds a bit of color while protecting against the sun.
- Shiseido Clear Sunscreen Stick SPF 50: The MVP sunscreen while I travel since it swipes easily over makeup and doesn't take up a lot of space in my bag. UV rays are stronger while you're in the air, so protecting your skin is a must! For a more affordable alternative, try Cerave's sunscreen stick.
- Alta disinfecting wipes: These wipes are smaller, but they're the perfect size for wiping down my seat area (tray table, seatbelt, armrests, headrest). They're also alcohol free and smell great.
- Hand sanitizer is pretty self explanatory. I have a hundred travel sizes laying around to keep in all of my bags and refill with the gel as needed.
- Pens are an often overlooked must; keep at least one within easy reach for customs forms or other paperwork (like Hawaii's agriculture form!)
- Wired earbuds are rarely used after the introduction of Airpods, but I keep a set in my travel bag for inflight entertainment. Delta gives earbuds out free, so I hang on to them to stash for later.
On the flip side, I don't keep any valuables (like my wallet or passport) in the seat back pocket. Maybe I'm paranoid, but I don't want it to be tempting or easy to see and swipe. I keep these items in my personal item under my seat, so they're harder to get to if I fall asleep.
Having everything in one pouch makes it easy to pack up and be on your way when it's time to get off the plane!
